POLYMER RAG FLAG
Polymer Rag Flags is a project produced over a short artist residency at the Culture Factory Polymer. My previous visits to Polymer, the site and experiences of it, shaped the idea prior to the residency. Found materials is what Polymer is based on and waste is generally scarce. During my stay I became interested to examine how to extend the life cycle of different waste materials even further and what is perceived as waste in different locations - themes which I will continue to work with.

The flag is dyed with vegetable dyes which are produced utilising bio waste of Polymer. It is made out of old sheets (thank you Polymer resident Mika!) and other ragged cotton. The flag became a visual working diary of a resident artist´s daily life and routines of cooking dyes, colouring fabrics and making meals out of vegetables used for the dyes too.

Polymer Rag Flag is a site-specific work, which is also part of FlatPackArt project, which aims to produce art works for public spaces which fit into a mailable format. The project is developed in collaboration with UK-based artist Cathy Rogers and will be taking place in Tallinn, Helsinki and Maidstone and continued to be developed and tested for different sites in Europe.

The residency was supported by Kulturkontakt Nord.
